Lonely George & Volcanoes.
I'm always trying new ways to feature Fashion & the environment.
For readers who read this blog regularly or know me, will know that I’m massively into the conservation and protection of species.
It seem these days mainly due to the human
race, that the disappearance of animals and plants has become a natural process
or even something that we now expect to happen.
A recent news clip showed that Lonely George
or Lonesome George had died. For those of you who don’t know who ‘Lonely
George’ was, he was last of subspecies of Galapagos Pinta Tortoise (Chelonoidis
nigra becki, if you want the real name!) and in his later years of life
became known as the rarest creature in the world.
George was first seen on the island of Pinta on 1 December
1971 by Hungarian malacologist József Vágvölgyi. The Islands needs
agriculturally and the indigenous had reduced the race down to an individual
specimen. George was penned with two females of a different subspecies.
Although eggs were produced, none hatched. The Pinta tortoise was pronounced as
functionally extinct due to George living in captivity.
On
24 June 2012, Lonesome George died of unknown causes.
I was recently viewing a great clip short
fashion film by Luca Finotti called “Volcanoes”.
The clip is featured in a rocky mountainous
terrain, surrounded by the ocean. Even though the clip is in black & white
and you don’t see the colour of the surroundings you still get that bold, vast
feeling on structure and space.
The video editorial reminds me of the Galapagos.
A single lonesome man, striding quite
comfortable in feral terrain in a place which he could refer to as home.
Another amzing Luca Finotti showcasing his talents!
