I've always been fortunate enough to meet people that I respect; but never a hero as such, well until recently.
Tuesday 5th July on an extremely muggy morning I made my way from Cardiff to Bath, for an individual conference with Sir David Attenborough.
The 'conference' was to take place at a book signing for David's new book "New Life Stories".
As I queued in the feeble rainfall outside, in a queue of fifty people strong I did start to worry.
"What if he wasn't the man I believed he would be" was probably the biggest question playing on my mind.
After being let inside, I stood at the bottom of cast iron staircase, until a lady with the most unusual tone of voice and vivid red hair called my name.
I peered through the door and there was Sir David, sat graciously at an old writing desk in a layout that appeared like an old library as we caught each other’s eyes he stood up and welcomed me inside.
We sat an chatted in a casual manner for what felt like hours discussing world issues such as Global warming & climate change, but also topics of animals such as Birds of Paradise, butterflies and we chuckled over his dislike for rats.
After leaving I felt hugely inspired. Here was a man who has been teaching us about the joys of the natural world for over half a decade and with the smile on his face as he tells these stories he still has the same passion now as to when he first started.
But just like I told David, I would love to see myself in his role for the next generation but I would do things slightly differently, more fashionable perhaps…
