Cole Monahan by Scott Teitler | JÓN Magazine
Editoiral Concept? The answer is simple.
I believe the easiest mistake to make when pitching editorial concepts is getting carried away. It so easy to flick through Vogue and see the pages of glamorous, romanticism that have been conjured from the dream world of fashion greats like Grace Coddington and Kate Phelan, but sometimes when elements such as budget and time frame aren't on your side, don't go getting lost in a world of wonderland, keep it simple and take it back to basics. It's better to have one strong story, than getting swamped in the ideas of many!
I'm really enjoying this editorial by Scott Teitler for JÓN featuring the very dashing, Cole Monahan from Elite Models Miami.
The idea behind this shoot is pretty simple - Sports, in particular ice hockey. The ethos of JÓN is:
"Who's that guy? Meet JON!
He can be the boy next door to the man of your dreams and everything in
between. Young fresh and fun, JON always aims to please.
JON
is a men's fashion magazine featuring beautiful guys and amazing fashion
yet lighthearted aimed to excite the imagination and inspire our
readers."
The objective of any shoot for a publication to fore fill the ethos and appeal to the brands audience, presenting an identity. In my opinion this shoot delivers the ethos of JÓN magazine very well and I think this for a few reasons.
Model casting - Cole Monahan is clearly a vision to look at - Man of your dreams - box ticked! Plus, he must live next door to someone - Tick!
Good flow - So, once you look past Cole's handsomeness and into his posing, the images guide us through a story. Even if he is just taking off his clothes and then get dressed into a great suit. You can't help but see the imagery through from start to finish.
Final details - Regular readers will know I'm a sucker for black and white everything, a signature attribute of JÓN. But besides that it's clear this team have good vision, well styled and good photography.
